Cambridge Lower Secondary offers a seamless transition from primary education, equipping students with the foundation needed for post-14 education programs that lead to formal qualifications. At FIS, our lower secondary students build on the knowledge and skills acquired in their primary years, while continuing with the Cambridge Assessment curriculum in core subjects like English, Maths, and Science. Beyond these essentials, we provide a diverse range of courses designed to meet the unique learning needs of our students.
Courses Offered: Art, Music, Computing, Physical Education, French, PSHE, Global Perspectives, Social Science, Kiswahili, and Turkish.
In Years 10 and 11 at FIS, students embark on their journey towards the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). While core subjects like English, Mathematics, and at least one Science subject are mandatory, students have the flexibility to choose additional subjects from fields such as finance, humanities, and modern foreign languages. This enables them to tailor their education to their unique strengths and interests.
This freedom empowers students to demonstrate their learning abilities and begin specializing in areas they are passionate about. The culmination of this phase is the summative written examinations held in May/June of Year 11, where their knowledge and understanding of the IGCSE curriculum are assessed.
